I think I should write this out and post it both in this community temple_of_bast and my own personal journal(s), since this is true and yet so adorable.
My mom (and since I now live with my mom, me too) adopted a Russian blue cat three years ago and since the beginning she's had so much personality and is so loving that no one can resist her regal demands. She can be moody but she's also adorably sweet. Anyway, within the past two days, Sarah and I have both expressed our kitty sides, which isn't surprising as she is a cat. :P
The first story goes like this: last night, she was laying on top of the blankets as I tried to pull them up around me. She, naturally, didn't like being moved around, so she hissed and looked challengingly at me. I kind of looked back at her, gauging whether or not I should continue trying to move the blanket. I decided that even though she was lying on the blanket, I should get some blanket for myself. So I continued to pull, to which she reached out and scratched me hard on my wrist and hissed. I got mad and, instead of acting like most humans and going, "Ow you mean cat!" or whatever else people tend to do, I hissed right back and pulled harder on the blanket. Whenever Sarah and I get into these literal cat fights and start hissing, it's a matter of who can show more nce. Usually it's me but sometimes it's her. I can hiss like a lioness and she kind of gets scared, but sometimes she stares at me challengingly like, "Why should I listen to you?" since she's gotten used to it. This time, however, I guess I proved my nce so she got down and ran away to sulk.
There have been many times where she sulks and comes back to fight some more. This wasn't one of those times, however.
She came back about an hour later and lied down to bathe herself for the second time in the past two hours. No wonder she's never dirty or smelly! She bathes like crazy, lol. As she was bathing herself, she stopped and began to give me what we call "kitty kisses", where she starts licking your hand in affection. Usually it lasts for about five licks and then she stops. That wasn't the case that time. She spent about half an hour just on one hand. In my mind, she was acting like a mother cat who bathes herself and then bathes her young, which is not typical behavior for Sarah. Sarah, as we suspect, is not always Sarah. We suspect that she might be one of the great cat goddesses at certain times, depending on the changes her behavior undergoes. But anyway, I just thought it was so adorable, because right after she "bathed" me, she did the same to my mom. Both of us were astonished, since she doesn't typically do that. She continued bathing herself and all was good.
It's just interesting when she does things like that; I love when she's affectionate but that was more affection than she typically gives, as she demands affection from us but gives affection only when she deems us deserving, though not for very long periods of time like that.
